2022 Billy Button ‘The Squid’ Saperavi
Saperavi is an ancient Georgian variety that literally translates to ink or dye in the local dialect, in reference to its intense colour. It is one of the few red wine varieties that has red flesh. This fruit was sourced from Merriang Vineyards at Merriang South.
One of the few varieties that has red coloured flesh, it produces intensely coloured and flavoured wines. Potpourri on the nose combining aromas of dried herbs and fragrant rose petals with a rich intense palate.

Reviews
"Dark, inky, imposing and, well, at times, impenetrable, saperavi demands your attention and your time. As you unpeel layer upon layer of black fruits, undergrowth, truffle, mushroom, earth, spice and more, you don't seem any closer to the core, and then those robust tannins kick in. A deep, thoughtful wine for sure, which promises a long cellaring life." Awarded 89 points, Halliday Wine Companion, Jeni Port - Published 07 August 2024
