2026 Billy Button ‘The Groovy’ Grüner Veltliner
Primarily grown in Austria, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, Grüner Veltliner thrives in cool climates making it a fitting variety for the Alpine Valleys. With a relatively young history in Australia (the first commercial example was released in 2009 by Lark Hill in the Canberra District), the variety has seen promising growth in regions such as Adelaide Hills, Eden Valley, Tumbarumba and parts of Tasmania.

Vintage Snapshot
Despite an incredibly unpredictable season and resulting low yields our growers did an outstanding job. White wines from this year all demonstrate a purity across the board with incredible and succinct varietal characteristics. This year’s Gruner Veltliner is textured and elegant, with a purity that makes it a highlight for the winemaking team this year.
Production Notes
Fruit was handpicked, then crushed and destemmed to achieve some skin contact prior to pressing. Once pressed the juice was cold settled, racked and inoculated with selected yeast. Fermented in stainless steel, the wine was then sulphured soon after going dry and left on yeast lees until bottling. Clarified and bottled July 2026.
Tasting Notes
This wine displays remarkable purity. Intensely aromatic, it opens with delicate white florals layered over vibrant lemon and lime, that is complemented by a lifted sherbet-like freshness. The palate is driven by bright, crisp acidity, revealing a fine textural complexity with elegant phenolics leaving a subtle dryness lingering on the finish.
Optimal Drinking Window – now to 2036
Drink now to make the most of the lifted florals. Excellent aging potential if you want to hold onto it.
