2017 Billy Button ‘The Versatile’ Vermentino

Museum Release - Lovely mature Vermentino from a cool year
2017 Billy Button ‘The Versatile’ Vermentino

The 2017 vintage was one of the coolest in recent years with a very mild summer.

Production Notes
The handpicked grapes were whole bunch pressed. The juice was then settled overnight and roughly racked to ferment, which took place in stainless steel using wild yeasts. The wine stayed on ferment lees for 3 months with occasional stirring to enrich the texture and add complexity. The wine was then filtered and bottled.

Tasting Note - 4/6/2021
Colour: Pale straw with green highlights
Nose: Toasty citrus, candied ginger and preserved lemon aromas
Palate: Tightly coiled and fresh with pomme fruit and pithy citrus with lovely weight and intensity. Still a baby and will continue to improve for many years.

"Mouthwatering white wine.  Refreshing from start to finish with florals, spice and citrus notes aplenty.  Sits up straight in glass, seems very "correct", even as it rinses through with flavour.  Nice one."  92 points - Campbell Mattinson, published 21 June 2021 Halliday Wine Companion
