2022 Billy Button ‘The Demure’ Pinot Blanc duplicate

Pinot Blanc originates from the Alsace region of France and is also extensively grown in North-eastern Italy where it is known as Pinot Bianco. It is a colour mutation of Pinot Gris first reported in Burgundy in the late 1890’s. Pinot Blanc is exceedingly rare in Australia and only one small parcel is grown in the Alpine Valleys at the Mulcahy Vineyard at the foot of Mount Buffalo in Porepunkah.

Production Notes

Once pressed, settled and racked, the fermentation was undertaken with a selected strain of complexing yeast that respects the inherent fruit profile of the grapes. The wine was matured in tank with its yeast lees until clarification just prior to bottling in June 2021.

Reviews

"Winemaker Jo Marsh produces a huge array of alternative varietal wines, from a textural, savoury 2021 Malvasia to a round and grapey 2021 Albarino that she makes with Mayford Wines’ Eleana Anderson. Her 2022 Pinot Blanc, though, is the white I want to drink most right now: beautiful, pristine perfume of green apple and hints of incense, so pretty and fresh, a touch of snappy minerality, it shows that there are some really exciting new French alternatives for cooler regions." Max Allen, Drinks Columnist, Australian Financial Review - November 2022.

"It’s more elegant than demure. There’s fruit through the centre but it’s then chalky, dry and long through the finish, a kaffir lime-like note really prosecuting the wine’s case. It needs time to settle but both intensity and interest are good here." Rated 91 Points, The Winefront, Campbell Mattinson - 8 October 2022
