2024 Billy Button Rosato

The “Alpine” range are value wines made to offer immediate enjoyment to the consumer.  The range is made up of a Bianco, Rosato, Rosso, Prosecco and Sparkling Red.  Components vary year to year depending on the season and careful blending is used to create interesting wines featuring an abundance of varieties. Even though this range is made on a slightly larger scale than other Billy Button wines, all the components are made using a small batch ethos and are kept separate until the final blending.

The 2024 Rosato is 100% Sangiovese, sourced from Ferraro Vineyards in Myrtleford.

Production Notes

Machine harvested, crushed and pressed to stainless steel.  The juice was cold settled before being racked and divided into several batches. Each tank was inoculated with a different selected yeast, was fermented between 13 and 15 degrees and sulphured on completion of ferment to retain freshness. The wine was then allowed some time on yeast lees before blending and clarification. Bottled July 2024.

Tasting Notes

Attractive salmon pink.  Beautifully fragrant and pretty, with delicate aromas of fairy floss and strawberry leaf. Strawberry and red cherry compliment a palate that is textural, yet delicate - elements owed to time on lees.  Crisp and absolutely smashable.

Reviews

"Made with sangiovese grown in the Alpine Valleys.

There’s a lovely savoury dryness to this wine. It begs for food, as good rosé generally does. It tastes of rose petals and fresh red cherry, mostly, though tonic-water herb notes and lemon blossom characters play roles too. There’s also a smattering of wood spice, if you look hard enough, though truth be told you’re more likely to just be hooking in. In short, this wine works." "The winemaker knows what works in a rosé – inviting in colour, fruit forward, slightly savoury, with brisk acidity and just a hint of confection to close. Copper-pink colour introduces a scent of fresh cherries and raspberry with a dusty earthy overtone. So fresh and juicy to taste, with summer berries to the fore, earth and spice. Mid-palate texture raises all kinds of food matches." Awarded 91 points, Halliday Wine Companion, Jeni Port - Published 03 February 2025
